ASSISTANT NEWS DIRECTOR - 14432
Charleston, SCWCIV-TV nestled in the coastal waters of Charleston, SC is looking for an aggressive and engaging Assistant News Director for our content team. The Assistant News Director will oversee production of newscasts and assignments while working closely with producers, reporters, anchors and our digital content team on daily news coverage. The ideal candidate must be proficient in creative writing, copy editing, and enterprising stories and be committed to managing compelling newscasts. We are looking for someone who embraces social media and knows how to consistently engage with the audience across all platforms. The ideal candidate will help drive a focused and talented team with enthusiasm and clear purpose.
Responsibilities include:
- Oversee newscasts, script reviews of producers and reporters for assigned newscasts
- Aggressively lead breaking news and severe weather coverage
- Work closely with the News Director to carry out news philosophy and direction
- Review daily newscasts to ensure quality control and Next Level News focus
- Oversee Special Projects and enterprise coverage
- Planning and overseeing continuity into upcoming newscasts
- Other responsibilities as assigned
Requirements include:
- Bachelor's degree in journalism or a related field and 8 plus years’ experience
- Must have a working knowledge of journalistic ethics, libel, and privacy laws
- Exceptional written communication skills using a conversational writing style
- Great people skills with an emphasis on coaching and leading
- Experience with iNews, and AVID a plus
